Frequently asked questions
You do this here in the Manage accounts tool.
The Manage accounts tool has a lot of features. Here is a list of all your students with the corresponding settings. Below you can read what the settings entail and how to use the tool.
1. Add a student to your manage students. (See also: Can I add an existing Chessity account to my students?)
2. Use this button to purchase one or more new student accounts, which you can activate when ready. Above the button, you can see how many accounts you have in stock.
3. Sort the student list by username (alphabetically ascending or descending) or search for a username using the search field.
4. Sort the student list by name (first name alphabetically ascending or descending) or search for a name using the search field.
5. Add notes to the students at your discretion.
6. Sort the student list by label (alphabetically ascending or descending) or search for a group using the search field.
7. See the premium account duration of the students here.
8. Extend the premium account duration by 12 months. These 12 months start after the original expiration date. To extend an account, you must have enough premium accounts in stock.
9. Change your student's password or personal details.
10. Enable playful mode or classic mode. (See also: What are the differences between the playful and classic mode?)
11. Unlock all lessons for an advanced student. He or she does not need to unlock lessons first. Our advice is to be very cautious with this. Default setting: all lessons locked.
12. Shield the student from contacts with strangers. By checking protect student, you ensure that children can only communicate within their own group. Default setting: protected status on.
13. Enable or disable the chat function. The chat function is a popular feature within classes but sometimes leads to unwanted behavior. We recommend allowing this function under normal circumstances as it helps children practice an important 21st-century skill. Default setting: chat enabled.
14. Lock or unlock the Arena. In a locked arena, the student must first earn 5 stars per week to play. Default setting: Arena locked with star lock.
15. Use this panel to make a new label.
16. Use this panel to remove an assigned label.
17. Here you can see the different labels and the students who have been assigned that label.
18. Use this green button to expand the 'groups' panel if you don't see it on the screen, or to collapse it.
19. This is a handy feature if you want to adjust settings for multiple students at once. Manually check the students in question or use the option to select all students at once.
20. Here the main settings are briefly explained again.
You can find Manage accounts in the blue menu or via your icon at the top right of your screen:
OR
In the top left of the manage students, you can see how many accounts you have in stock. In the example below, there are 97 accounts in stock.
Note: do the buttons appear grey? That’s because all teams are selected. You can only add students to a specific team. Select the team you want to add the student to from the menu bar at the top. The buttons will then become active.
Add a new student
To create an account for a student, click on Add new student.
A pop-up will appear where you can enter the student's details.
All fields marked with an asterisk must be filled in. The other fields can be left blank.
The email address field is not mandatory, but it is useful. The student will receive notifications from you and the program via email. An email address can only be used once within Chessity. You cannot register multiple children with one email address. If the email address is already in use for another family member, you can leave this field blank.
Do you still want to use an existing email address? Read here what options are available to do this.
It is wise to use a logical system for creating usernames that is easy to remember. For example, the child's first name, preceded by a standard addition per school.
It may seem convenient to include the group in the username, but it's better not to do this. Next school year, the groups will be different.
Make sure to enter the student's name correctly, as this name will also be printed on the diploma.
After the new student account is created, the user can be found in your student overview. Here you can also set which usage options you want to activate or deactivate for this student.
Add an existing student
A student may already have a Chessity account. An existing Chessity account can easily be included in the school's or club's manage students. This gives the teacher or chess coach insight into the results. They can also now adjust the user settings.
There are two possibilities:
- The student has a private individual Chessity account.
- The student has a Chessity account through a school or chess club.
Different procedures apply to both situations.
The student has a private individual Chessity account
Go to manage students. Click on the blue button Add student with existing account.
Enter the username, click on the displayed user, and confirm with add. The user is now conditionally included in your manage students. The student must give permission for external management of their account. The next time the student logs in, they must approve these rights.
When the individual subscription expires, the teacher can assign a student account to this existing user via manage students. All data will be retained.
The student has a Chessity account through a school or chess club
For a student who already has a Chessity account through a school or chess club, the above method usually cannot be used. Schools/clubs generally choose user settings that shield the student from contact with users outside their own school/chess club. A shielded account cannot be found via the button Add student with existing account.
To gain insight into this student's results, you must ask the other coach (who created and manages the student account) to share rights with you.
The online safety of our protected users is paramount. Therefore, it is not possible to request this through the system. There must always be personal contact between both coaches or teachers.
In the manage accounts tool, you can see how many available premium accounts you have in your inventory. You can easily purchase more accounts via the blue button Buy more premium accounts.
Clicking here will show you a screen with a pricing tier. If you want to buy more accounts, the price per account will decrease. You can simply store these accounts in an inventory, allowing you to use them later. This way, you can save costs by purchasing a larger number of accounts at once.
By sliding the bar at the top, you can discover the price for different quantities. Purchased accounts go into your inventory, and you can assign them to students in the manage students section, where they will be valid for a year. Non-activated accounts can be kept until you need them.
After choosing a quantity, fill in your billing details at the bottom. Then click Buy now to purchase the accounts. After a successful payment, you will receive a confirmation email. The accounts can then be used immediately.

In Manage accounts, you can easily search for a student's (user)name. You can also sort the student list alphabetically, both ascending and descending.
This way, you can easily find students in manage students to change their settings or assign a label.
In Manage accounts, you can easily add notes for each student. Simply type the note you want to make in the square under Notes.
Examples:
"New student" - Use this to mark someone as new and possibly needing extra attention at the start.
"Leaving school" - Useful to indicate that someone is about to leave school, so you don't need to extend the premium account duration.
Note: notes are visible not only in Manage accounts but also in the Expert Dashboard.
Labels in Chessity are handy "stickers" that you can attach to students. They help you to easily organize and find students. Think of labels like 'struggles with checkmate', 'talent class' or 'online lesson'. You can give a player multiple labels, so they can be found in different categories.
Example: Suppose some students are still struggling with checkmate. By giving them the label 'struggles with checkmate', you can easily find them in the task manager and assign extra exercises to train specifically on that. (See also: How can I assign tasks to my student?)
The difference between groups and labels is that a player can only be in one group at a time, while you can add as many labels as you want. Labels also work across groups.
In this video Janton explains more about the difference between groups and labels.
Creating a label is very simple! Just type in the name of the label and click OK. The new label will immediately appear in the Student Management.

There are two ways to delete labels:
-
Remove a label from a student:
Drag the student to the gray box at the top that says 'Drag students here to remove a label. Only that label will be removed from the student. The student will still exist and can still have other labels. -
Delete an entire label:
On the right of each label, you see a trash can icon. Note: clicking this will delete the entire label. This means the label will disappear from all students and the label itself will no longer exist.
To extend the premium account duration, you must have enough premium accounts in your inventory. In the Manage students section, you can see how many available premium accounts you have in your inventory. (See also: How do I buy more premium accounts?)
The premium account duration is 12 months. In Manage students, you can see if a student has a premium account and until when. You can easily extend the premium account duration by clicking the yellow plus (under the diamond). This extends the premium account duration by another 12 months.
Click on the blue pencil next to the student's name in manage accounts. A pop-up will appear with all the student's details. Enter a new password and click Save.

The Playful mode is specially designed for children: colorful, with game elements like rocket and castle races that make learning more fun.
The Classic mode offers a calm, serious learning environment without game elements. Ideal for those who want more focus and less distraction.
In the Student Management you can choose per student for the playful mode (green checkmark) or the classic mode (red cross):
By default, all lessons in Chessity are locked. Students play lessons step by step via Chessto's learning path. Chessto automatically assigns tasks and provides just-in-time coaching: it monitors which lesson(s) a child still needs to complete to earn a new sticker on the way to the next exam.
However, as a teacher, you can choose to unlock all lessons for a student. This means the student has immediate access to all lessons and can freely choose where to start. It also means a student will no longer receive automatic Chessto tasks and cannot take exams. Unlocking lessons is a feature mainly used by teachers themselves.
You unlock the lessons in the Student Management:
Note!
Children often overestimate their own level (by a lot). They then start with lessons that are too difficult, leading to frustration. Taking a step back is difficult for many children. Our advice is to be very cautious with unlocking all lessons! Using the entry test is the best method to quickly get children working at their own level.

The protected status allows students to only play and communicate with teachers and students from their own school. Contact with users outside the school is not possible. This ensures a safe learning environment. It is also possible to disable the protected status for students. Students can now chat and play with all Chessity users.
You can disable the protected status in the Student Management:
Yes, you can. The chat feature is popular in classes but sometimes leads to unwanted behavior. We recommend allowing this feature under normal circumstances as it helps children practice an important 21st-century skill. The default setting is that the chat feature is enabled for all students, but you can easily turn it off in the Student Management.
Chessity has created a safe place to chat, as AI monitors the messages. This makes it impossible to send inappropriate messages.
The default setting is that the Arena is locked with a 'star lock'. This means a student must first earn 5 stars in the lessons per week to be able to play. This way, learning and playing alternate, encouraging kids to work on their chess skills.
However, it is possible to unlock the Arena so students can always play. In the Student Management, you can unlock the Arena for one or more students:

Yes, you can. In Manage accounts, you can easily select multiple students by checking the box next to their names. This allows you to adjust the same settings for multiple students at once.
You can also select all students at once. Do this via the button at the bottom of the student management:
After selecting the right students, you can choose an action to perform at the bottom. Select the action and click OK.
