Frequently asked questions
Creating student accounts is completely free! All children can join your first chess lesson for free. The easiest way is to start with a workshop via the workshop tool. This allows students to create an account themselves.
All accounts are then valid for a month. After this month, most features will be locked.
You can then choose to purchase a Premium subscription, which allows you to use all features for a year. If you do not wish to purchase a Premium subscription yet, the data will be saved. This way, you can always resume later.

You can purchase accounts for the students via manage students. There is a blue button at the top left labeled 'buy more accounts'. Clicking it will show a screen with a pricing tier. If you buy more accounts, the price per account will decrease. You can store these accounts in a stock, allowing you to use them later. This way, you can save costs by purchasing a larger number of accounts at once.
View price for desired number of accounts
By sliding the bar at the top, you can discover the price for different quantities. Purchased accounts go into your stock, and you can assign them to students in manage students, after which they are valid for a year. Non-activated accounts can be kept until needed.
After choosing a quantity, fill in your billing details at the bottom. Then click Buy Now to purchase the accounts. After a successful payment, you will receive a confirmation email. The accounts can then be used immediately.

All teachers or trainers teaching with Chessity need their own teacher or coach account. There is no charge for this.
Do you also want to follow the training program as a teacher? To prevent people from using Chessity for free indefinitely with a coach or teacher account, a policy applies. A teacher can use Chessity indefinitely if one of the following conditions is met:
1. You have at least one student with a Premium subscription.
2. There is at least one account in your inventory.

Can I as a teacher or coach also follow the training program?
You can find the accounts you purchased in the Student Management.
Want to know how to assign such an account to a student? You do this by clicking the yellow plus [+] next to a student. Then a confirmation is requested. The student now has access to Chessity for a year.
You can also activate the entire class at once by using the function at the bottom. Check all the students you want to give a Premium subscription to, and select the option: 'Add a subscription for 12 months'

Want to strengthen your organization with more teachers or assistants? Follow these simple steps!
Step 1: Go to 'School Settings' in the left menu at the bottom under Organization.
Step 2: Verify your identity with the code you received via email. This is an extra security measure.
Step 3: Navigate to 'manage roles in the organization' and choose 'Add new teacher or coach'.
Step 4: Create an account for the new teacher or coach. If this person already has an account with Chessity, add this user via the search menu. Under 'role', you can set the user's permissions.

You do this here in the Manage Students tool.
The manage students tool has many features. Here is a list of all your students with the corresponding settings. Below you can read what the settings entail and how to use the manage students tool.
1. Add a student to your manage students who already has a Chessity account. See also: Can I add an existing Chessity account to my manage students?.
2. Add a new student. You activate one of your purchased accounts and set it up for the student.
3. Students who have been inactive for a long time are no longer shown in the manage students. Use this button to make them visible again.
4. Sort the student list by username (alphabetically ascending or descending) or search for a username using the search field.
5. Sort the student list by name (first name alphabetically ascending or descending) or search for a name using the search field.
6. Add notes to the students at your discretion.
7. Sort the student list by group (alphabetically ascending or descending) or search for a group using the search field.
8. Extend the premium account duration by 12 months. These 12 months start after the original expiration date. To extend an account, you must have enough premium accounts in stock.
9. Change your student's password or personal information.
10. Turn the simplified beginner mode (learning environment for children) on or off. Default setting: simplified mode on.
11. Unlock all lessons for an advanced student. He or she does not need to unlock lessons first. Our advice is to be very cautious with this. Default setting: all lessons locked.
12. Shield the student from contact with strangers. By checking protect student, you ensure that children can only communicate within their own group. Default setting: protected status on.
13. Turn the chat function on or off. The chat function is popular within classes but sometimes leads to unwanted behavior. We recommend allowing this function under normal circumstances as it helps children practice an important 21st-century skill. Default setting: simplified mode on.
14. Lock or unlock the Arena. In a locked arena, the student must earn 5 stars (per week) to be able to play. Default setting: Arena locked with star lock
15. Turn Chessto tasks on or off. Chessto tracks which lesson(s) still need to be completed to earn a new sticker on the way to the practice exam. Once a week, Chessto assigns these lesson(s) as a special mission to the students. If the student already has tasks, Chessto does not assign missions. Default setting: Chessto tasks on.
16. Use this green button to expand the 'groups' panel if you don't see it on the screen, or to collapse it.
17. Use this button to purchase one or more new student accounts, which you can activate when you are ready. Above the button, you can see how many accounts you still have in stock.
18. Use this panel to assign your students to groups.
19. Use this panel to remove students from groups.
20. This is a handy feature if you want to adjust settings for multiple students at once. Manually check the students in question or use the option to select all students at once.
21. Here the most important settings are briefly explained again.
Entering an email address is not mandatory for students. Moreover, they create an account via the workshop tool without an email address.
However, you might want to provide an email address for them, for example, if they want to work with Chessity at home. An email address might already be in use. This can mean two things.
- A free or premium account that your student has already used with this address.
- An account of someone in the same family (parent, sibling) using the same email address.
Choose your solution:
There are different solutions. It depends on the situation which option you should choose:
- Create a student account without entering an email address. Email addresses are optional for student accounts. This option is useful for multiple siblings at one school or club.
- Change the email address of the existing account. You can now use the desired email address for the new student account.
- Link the existing account to your manage students. Your student can continue using their own account, but you now have full coaching rights.
- Delete the existing account and create a new student account with the same email address. All old user data will be erased and cannot be retrieved.
The easiest way is through the Chessity Workshop tool. This allows students to create their own accounts!
If you, as a teacher or coach, also want to create accounts, you can do so. At the top of the manage students section, you will see the button add a student. Here, it is only mandatory to fill in a username, password, and first name. The rest is optional.
Additionally, there is also the option to add existing Chessity accounts to your manage students section. You can also do this in the manage students section by clicking on add student with existing account.
No, entering an email address is not required. You can leave this square empty. Moreover, students will initially create an account via the workshop tool without an email address.
Note: as a coach, do not enter your own email address for all your students. That won't work. Each email address can only be used once. Therefore, each Chessity account requires a unique email address.

What should I do if an email address is already in use?
If you have purchased accounts for your students, you need to set up a student account for each student individually.
Click on Coach in the menu bar:
You will then see the Coach page; this is the page where all the tools you can use as an instructor in Chessity are located. You create student accounts with the tool Manage student accounts:
You will now enter the dashboard where you create accounts for your students and adjust settings. If you have not yet created student accounts, the list is still empty.
In the top right corner, you can see how many accounts you have in stock:
In this example, there are 20 accounts in stock.
To create an account for a student, click on Add a new student:
A pop-up appears where you can enter the student's details.
All fields marked with an asterisk must be filled in. You may also leave the others blank.
The email address field does not necessarily need to be filled in, but it is useful. The student will receive notifications from you and the program via email. An email address can only be used once within Chessity. You cannot register multiple children with one email address. If the email address is already in use for another family member, you can also leave this field blank.
Do you still want to use an existing email address? Read here what options are available to do this.
It is wise to use a logical system when creating usernames that is easy to remember. For example, the child's first name, preceded by a standard addition per school.
It may seem convenient to include the group in the username, but it is better not to do so. Next school year, the groups will be different again.
Make sure to fill in the student's name correctly, as this name will also be printed on the diploma.
After the new student account is created, the user can be found in your student overview. Here you can also set which usage options you want to activate or deactivate for this student.
Yes, it can! Once a student account is created, their name appears in your overview of student accounts in Manage Students. In manage students, you can click on the pencil icon, visible in a blue button. There you can change all the details of a student.
Teacher and coach accounts have all the benefits of individual accounts. Additionally, they have access to the special Chessity teachers' environment. This environment is designed to support teachers in teaching and managing a class.
Below are the main tools listed:
- Manage students
- Workshop tool
- Dashboard with student tracking system
- Special training tools
- The ability to print diplomas.
A student account can be easily deleted in the manage students. At the very end, you will see a trash can. By clicking on it, you can delete an account. Note that this cannot be undone.
Yes, an existing Chessity account can easily be included in the student management of a school or club. This allows the teacher or chess instructor to gain insight into the results. They can also adjust the user settings.
There are two possibilities:
- The student has a private individual Chessity account
- The student has a Chessity account through a school or chess club.
Different procedures apply to both situations:
1. The student has a private individual Chessity account
Go to the coach tab and select the tool Manage Students:
Click the blue button 'Add student with existing account':
Enter the username, click on the displayed user, and confirm with add. The user is now conditionally included in your student management:
The student must give permission for external management of their account. The next time the student logs in, they must approve these rights. This message will appear on their start screen:
When the individual subscription expires, the teacher can assign a student account to this existing user via student management. All data will be preserved.
2. The student has a Chessity account through a school or chess club
For a student who already has a Chessity account through a school or chess club, the above method usually cannot be used. Typically, the school/club chooses user settings that shield the student from contact with users outside their own school/chess club. A shielded account cannot be found via the 'Add student with existing account' button.
To gain insight into this student's results, you must ask the other coach (who created and manages the student account) to share rights with you (see: Can I assign students to another teacher or trainer?).
The online safety of our protected users is paramount. Therefore, it is not possible to request this through the system. There must always be personal contact between both coaches or teachers.
Accounts are personal. Chessity is an adaptive program, meaning it automatically adjusts to the user's level. Therefore, you cannot simply transfer your account to someone else, as another person may have very different progress. Additionally, it is not possible to transfer a player's Premium subscription to another person.
The only way to recover a Premium subscription is if you delete an account within three days of activating the subscription. The Premium subscription will then return to your inventory.
Schools and coaches/associations in the Netherlands can receive an invoice when purchasing accounts.
Schools
Schools can download an invoice for the purchased accounts. To do this, go to My account (menu top right) and scroll all the way to the bottom of the page:
Coaches/associations:
Send a request for invoices to contact@chessity.com. After approval, you will find the invoices at the bottom of the My account page (see image above).
If parents want to include their child's school account in their own family account, the school must assign the student account to the family account (of course, the student account also remains in the school's manage students). For this, you first need to become friends in Chessity.
Then click on the Coach tab (menu bar) and open the Manage students tool.
Check the name of the student you want to assign to a family account. In the dropdown menu 'Choose an action to perform', select the option Assign users to another coach. Enter the username of the family account and click Okay.
Confirm that you want to perform this action:
The student is now shown in both the student tracking system (dashboard, coach others) and in the parents' family account. The parents now also have the rights to change the password or choose other settings for this student.
