Frequently asked questions
In the workshop screen, you will see different steps. During your first workshop, we recommend going through all the steps. The most important step is, of course, 'Start your chess fun'!
You will now get a screen where you can type a suffix so that all students get a unique name. Learn here >> more about the suffix.
After you have thought of the suffix, you can start by pressing the Blue button. Then you can click again on the Blue button with 'open session'. You can place this screen on a digital board. The students receive a link and a code. It is important that they type the link www.chessity.com/start very precisely. With the code, they can then create an account themselves. Everyone is ready to begin!
The Chessity workshop is the best way to start chess in the classroom. The workshop is designed so that you, as a teacher or chess coach, can get started in a few clicks. You can launch the workshop from your teacher environment. Now you get a code that you can put on the digital board. With this, students can create an account themselves!
Then all students can immediately start with their first lesson. The workshop is the ideal way to introduce students to chess. And with Chessity!
Within Chessity, all users have a unique account name. Since there can be more students named David or Lisa, a way is needed to distinguish them. Therefore, you can come up with a fun one to add to it.
We recommend using an abbreviation of your school or club. This has a nice bonus! If you participate in a tournament in the Arena, all your students form a close team because they all represent the same school or club.
The workshop is suitable for all ages. Most children will start with the basics. First, they learn the rules, and step by step their knowledge of the chess rules will be expanded as they work towards their first diploma! Additionally, within Chessity, a system has been set up so that students who already know something about chess can skip certain steps.
Still, we recommend starting with Chessity from age 7. Why?
- At that age, children can read well, understand the rules better, and have enough patience and enthusiasm to learn.
- The most important thing? They are often very curious and love to learn through games. Exactly what makes chess so fun!
Yes, they can! When students create their account, they are asked how they want to start. Here they can indicate whether they already have some chess experience or if they just want to start learning by playing. Students who indicate they have chess experience first take a short test with some chess positions where they can try to find the best move. If they successfully answer these questions, they can skip the first lessons! This way, a student might just start at the white-rook level.
Tip: children often overestimate their own level. They then start with lessons that are too difficult, leading to frustration. Therefore, for most students, it is wise to simply start at the beginning by choosing the left option on the start screen.
There is no limit!
To use Chessity, students need a computer or tablet with an internet connection. Are there not enough devices for each student? Then let 2 students work together on 1 device. Even then, the workshop is easy for everyone to follow.
The ideal thing about the Chessity workshop is that teachers hardly need to make any preparations. You can even start without any chess experience!
What is necessary, however, is that all students have a laptop or tablet with an internet connection. The instructions within the workshop are self-explanatory.
When you click the blue 'start' button, you can launch the workshop. You will receive the link that students can enter, and the students will also get a code to create their own account.
Don't be afraid to click the start button, as you can always return!
Sometimes a student accidentally ends up on the regular website instead of the workshop environment. Make sure the student types the correct link! Have the students log in via www.chessity.com/start
Tips to prevent login issues
- Have the students visit the website only after you have started the workshop.
- Ensure the students type www.chessity.com/start in the address bar. If they go via a Google search result, logging in often doesn't work.
Sometimes issues are due to the internet connection. Is there a connection? Try refreshing Chessity manually. Press Ctrl + F5 (Windows PC) or command + R (Mac) or click the refresh arrow in the browser. Chessity always remembers where you left off. After refreshing, the student can continue.
Have the student log in again by following these two steps:
1. Type www.chessity.com/start in the address bar. Be precise when typing this URL.
2. The student will automatically re-enter the workshop. The student now has the opportunity to log in again.
If a teacher clicks the red button with 'stop', then all students lose connection to the workshop. If you didn't click 'stop chess', maybe a colleague did, not knowing you were still busy. Fortunately, you can easily restart the workshop via the blue 'start' button. The results remain saved.
By clicking on the red button with 'stop', you close the workshop. All students will immediately lose connection to the workshop. The achieved results are saved for the next time you start a chess session.
Note: Are other classes also doing a workshop at the same time as your class? Make clear agreements about when you close the workshop. You will disconnect Chessity for the entire school. Did it go wrong by accident? Then simply restart the workshop by clicking the blue 'start' button again.
By clicking 'stop', all students in the entire school lose connection to Chessity. Did it happen to you? No worries. Click the blue 'start' button again, and everyone can continue. The results fortunately remain saved!

No, you don't. The students can work independently with Chessity. Do you want to learn chess too? Join in! Who knows, you might accidentally beat the whole class...
It's automatic! When you start the workshop, the students can create an account themselves. So, the students don't need to create an account in advance; creating an account is part of the workshop.
Yes, you can. And it's free. Every student can play chess for free for a month, just on the account they receive in the workshop.
The progress of all students is saved. In the second lesson, you can restart the workshop where the students can now indicate that they already have an account. They only need to re-enter their name. Who knows, they might soon earn the pawn diploma!
Your students can continue playing chess with Chessity for a month after the workshop. Completely free!
What if a student wants to continue playing chess with Chessity at home? They can! You do this by providing login details to the child. You can find the account name in the student management. If you want to change the password, you can also do this in the student management. For privacy reasons, the password is not visible here, but you can adjust it.
If a child wants to play chess with the whole family, that is also possible. With family accounts, you can play chess with 5 family members simultaneously. Read here>> how the school account can be added to a family account.
At the top of your teacher or coach environment, you will see 'teams'. Here you can organize all students into different groups. By clicking on 'team settings', you have the option to add different teams. This way, you can create multiple groups, allowing you to neatly split different classes.
In the student management, you will then only see the students of a particular group. Want to see all students at once? Click on 'view all teams' above the 'team settings'.
Want to know more about groups in Chessity? Then watch this >> video!
Remove students as follows:
- Log in with your school account
- Navigate to 'manage accounts' on the left under the 'students' tab.
- On the far right of the screen, you will see a trash can icon. This icon appears next to each student. By clicking on the trash can next to a specific student, you can remove them.
- Press 'OK' and confirm that you want to perform this action.
Note: Don't see the trash can icon next to a student? It might be that you don't have the rights to remove students. Learn more about the rights of different 'roles' here>>.
