A loose piece is a piece that is not defended. You can capture it for free. In chess, always ask yourself the following questions:
- Does my opponent have any loose pieces?
- If I spot a loose piece, can I capture it for free?
By capturing a piece for free, you win material. The word ‘material’ is used for either pawns or pieces.
In this lesson, it is pretty crowded on the board. That makes it hard to spot the loose piece.
What do you have to do?
Win material by making a free capture.
