Is the opponent’s king vulnerable? Look for checkmate! Deliver checkmate by placing the king in check while controlling all its escape squares.

Did you know that no chess piece can deliver checkmate alone? Even the queen cannot checkmate by itself, not even when the enemy king is in the corner. To deliver checkmate, multiple pieces must work together. Sometimes the checkmating piece needs protection. In other cases, multiple pieces cooperate to control all escape squares. Occasionally, an opponent’s piece might block their own king’s escape.

Check if you can deliver checkmate in one move. Control all escape squares, ensure the attacking piece cannot be captured, and make sure the opponent cannot block the check.
