Development 1

In the starting position, the pieces are not “active”. All pieces are brotherly next to each other, but they do not work together nicely. By moving your pieces to active positions they can begin to coordinate. Active pieces are pieces with a lot of freedom of movement. Generally they also have an important target in sight, or the pieces are fighting for the center.

Unlike the lessons within the opening trainer, a particular developing move in this lesson is always significantly better than all the alternatives.

What do you have to do?

Try to find the most optimal developing move. This means playing a piece from the starting position to an active square. Also, it is often a good idea to castle.
