Gaining Space with Tempo 1

The importance of gaining space was made clear in earlier lessons. It's even more powerful if you can do so while putting pressure on your opponent. When you gain space with "tempo," you not only move a pawn or piece forward but also force your opponent to react or make a concession. By combining space gain with an attack or threat, you ensure your pieces become more active while forcing your opponent to respond to your moves. In this lesson, you’ll gain space with tempo by advancing a pawn and attacking an enemy piece.
