Defense: counterattack (1)

A counterattack is a crushing chess trick! So let’s learn more about it.

Counterattacking means that you defend by attacking on your own turn. You pick a piece that has the same or a higher value. Now, the other player has little to gain in taking your piece. However… it’s up to your opponent. He is free to take if he likes.

But there is a way to keep your opponent from capturing. By checking his king. This leaves him no choice. He is forced to get out of check instead of taking your piece.

Study the example to learn how this works.

What do you have to do?

Defend your piece by (safely!) checking your opponent. Make room for the attacked piece.
