Skewer 1

In the Chessity method, you learn to exploit various types of targets. Unprotected pieces are obvious, but here we’ll focus on another type: two pieces aligned on the same file or diagonal.

When an opponent’s pieces are aligned, it creates opportunities for a powerful skewer. If the front piece moves, the piece behind it becomes vulnerable. During a skewer, your piece appears to “see through” the front piece to attack the one behind.

Fun fact: Only rooks, bishops, and queens can perform a skewer attack.

What do you have to do?

Find opportunities to use a file or diagonal to threaten multiple pieces. If the front piece moves, the piece behind it will be lost.
