Winning a pawn 1

As chess players get stronger, they need a lower material advantage to win. In the beginning, it is difficult to mate with a king and queen against a bare king. As soon as chess players get better, they also succeed in checkmating with only a king and rook.

If you follow games of the world's best players, you will regularly see that winning just a single pawn can be sufficient for victory. Every piece of wood on the board is important!

So in this lesson we won't be looking for great combinations that win huge amounts of material. The goal is more modest: win a pawn.

What do you have to do?

Look for a vulnerable enemy pawn and try to win it. Sometimes you will need a trick to pull this off.
